Georgios Raptis is a professor for computer science and eHealth at OTH Regensburg. He is also a licensed physician.

In the past, Georgios Raptis worked as consultant for the initiation of the national transplantation register. Currently he is working on projects related to the electronic health card (eGK).

Why is medical data different than, e.g., financial data?

Medical data affects people, financial data affects companies
In opposite to financial data, medical data is unique per person
Financial data has a "lifespan" of 5-10 years, whereas medical data is valid lifelong or even multiple generations
Financial data can be faked, whereas medical data is always real

Why are financial transaction data considered more secure than medical data?

Financial data are mostly numbers and can be better encrypted than medical data
Cryptographic algorithms are only considered secure for the upcoming few years
Current algorithms are optimized for transactional data
Neither is considered more secure than the other
